Nintendo Says Third-Party Games Make Up A Significant Share Of Software Sales

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has said that games from third-party publishers account for a significant share of software unit sales on its platforms.

Speaking during a financial results briefing, Furukawa said that these titles make a substantial contribution to the business. He also said their software has a strong presence among download-only titles and plays a major role in keeping people engaged with the hardware.

Nintendo's own games will always be a major reason people buy Switch and Switch 2, but third-party releases are clearly part of that picture too. Furukawa said Nintendo will keep releasing play experiences only it can offer, while deepening its work with publishers to make the platform as a whole more appealing.

Furukawa also addressed third-party releases in 2026. He said Nintendo has seen more multiplatform games with demanding hardware requirements launch on Switch 2 at the same time as other platforms. He added that new titles are being developed for Switch 2 that take advantage of its distinctive hardware features.

Furukawa credited this to both improved hardware performance and the relationships Nintendo has continued to build with third-party publishers.
