Zelda Switch 2 Pro Controller Is Gorgeous, But Has One Flaw

The Zelda 40th Anniversary Pro Controller for Nintendo Switch 2 has just been released, and this review says it is worth the price, with one drawback around dust.

The controller is part of Nintendo's Zelda 40th anniversary release, which also includes a Zelda-themed Switch 2 system. The reviewer had no plans to buy a new console, but a second Pro Controller is an easy extra, especially one that comes with a stand.

This is the second official Switch 2 Pro Controller with a built-in design. The first was Resident Evil-themed and mostly black with subtle artwork. The Zelda version is much bolder, with a semi-reflective gold face plate, a detailed Triforce between the + and - buttons, and gradient green handles and back. The back also has a small sprite of Link firing a sword beam from the original Legend of Zelda.

The reviewer says the controller feels as good as a standard Switch 2 Pro Controller, with the same smooth control sticks. The main issue is dust. After months of use, dust worked its way into the bottom of the control sticks and made them feel less smooth, which the reviewer notes is a problem with dust in general rather than with this controller specifically.

The included stand shows Hyrule Castle and the surrounding mountains. It is clean and detailed, though the review says it is finicky. The controller has to sit at a very specific forward tilt, and a small bump can make it fall. The reviewer suggests different units may fit the stand differently.

To keep dust out, the reviewer keeps their Switch 2 Pro Controllers in tomtoc cases. Thumb grips can also protect the control stick from chips, grease and dirt. The reviewer's favourite are Savage Raven's, which come in several colours, and the black ones suit this controller. Each pack contains two of each of three designs, so you can try them out. Overall the review calls the Zelda Pro Controller really nice and worth the wait.
