Nintendo Details Cut Fast Travel Feature In Zelda Ocarina Remake

Nintendo has revealed that a fast travel feature with warp points was once planned for the Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but it was removed before release.

Series producer Eiji Aonuma explained the idea in a new interview. In the original game, many players sped up their travel by spamming forward roll across Hyrule Field, and the team wanted to address that in the remake.

The warp points were added during development so players could reach places faster, but the team felt they were getting in the way. Aonuma said that using them meant missing the moments of discovery that come from stopping along the way and wondering what something is.

The team tried the warp points, decided they didn't fit the game's structure, and took them back out. Aonuma said the moments of discovery are central to how Ocarina of Time is built.

Nintendo also explained why the game was remade for Switch 2 in the same interview. The remake launches this Thursday, November 5.
