Thief: The Dark Project Remastered Gets Switch 2 And Switch Release Date

Atari, Nightdive Studios and Eidos-Montreal have set a release date for Thief: The Dark Project Remastered, and they have also confirmed a physical release for the game.

The remaster is a revival of the stealth classic that Looking Glass Studios made, and it brings together the original game, the extra missions from Thief Gold, and a new story campaign.

The game arrives on December 3, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch as a digital download. The standard digital edition costs $30, while the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $35 and includes an art book, the official soundtrack and an excerpt of an upcoming novelization.

Physical versions are also planned. The $40 Steelbook Edition includes the game, a steelbook and a printed manual. The $70 Deluxe Trapezoid Edition adds a Remaster Diary and recreates the trapezoid-shaped big-box packaging of the 1998 original. All physical versions can also be played on the original Nintendo Switch.

The Tarnished Mirror

The new campaign was made by the team behind Thief: The Black Parade, a large fan-made expansion for the PC. It sits between the original Thief and Thief II: The Metal Age, and it brings new factions, environments and Lovecraftian horror.

The remaster is also compatible with player-created mods, including The Black Parade. Nightdive and Eidos-Montreal have welcomed the community creation into official canon.
