Former Nintendo Of America President Doug Bowser Talks Switch Console Wars

Doug Bowser, the previous president of Nintendo of America, has spoken about how it bothered him when the original Nintendo Switch was left out of console wars conversations.

Bowser said he would notice news reports that only mentioned Sony and Microsoft, even though the Switch had sold around 150 million units. He admitted he is competitive, but he also said he was glad Nintendo stayed out of that conversation and chose to play in its own space.

Bowser also talked about the launch period for the Switch.

Those doubts faded after the first launch event, where people got to play the games for themselves. Bowser said the difference came from the experience of holding a controller and playing, not from what was inside the machine. He recalled consumers lining up around the block at the New York store on launch day, some with tears in their eyes as they came through the door. Along with these comments, Bowser revealed that he initially said "hell no" to taking the job at Nintendo.
