Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic Physical Release Set For Japan

Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic, the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil is getting a physical release on Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch, and pre-orders are open for the boxed versions. The release date is December 17, 2026.

The boxed versions have so far only been announced for Japan. English is one of the supported languages, though, so you can import a copy for either system and play it regardless of region.

The Switch 2 version is a proper cartridge rather than a game-key card, so there's no download step to worry about with that copy.

Touhou Koumakyou from the Touhou makes its debut on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

The game lets you control Reimu the shrine maiden or Marisa the magician as you work to resolve an incident threatening Gensokyo. The New Classic version has upgraded high-resolution visuals and every BGM track arranged by ZUN, and it adds a mode where you can play with unlimited lives. There is also a Classic version that keeps the original 2002 gameplay, though all text in that version is in Japanese.
