The Outlast Trials Gets Surprise Nintendo Switch 2 Release
Red Barrels has released a Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Outlast Trials, and it is available now.
The Outlast Trials first launched in 2024. It is a new take on the Outlast survival horror series and is set in the same universe as the earlier games.
Red Barrels describes it as a game about surviving terror with friends. You can go through the trials alone or in a team, and if you last long enough and complete the therapy, Murkoff lets you leave, though the game asks whether you'll be the same afterwards.
The story is set during the Cold War, when Murkoff Corporation recruits human test subjects to try out advanced brainwashing and mind control. You play as one of these prisoners, facing enemies that you must avoid by hiding or running away. Murkoff provides tools to help with stealth and escape, but you have to earn them and improve them yourself.
You can customise your character with tools, upgrades and perks, and decorate your cell, which is your home while you go through the therapy. You can also investigate the facility and collect documents and items that show Murkoff's malpractice against its patients.
The Switch 2 version is available digitally for $39.99. A trailer is available to watch to see more of the game.
